List of free sites of criminal backgrounds or criminal records?

Hi,

I’ve a question relating to the availability of criminal records to the public online.

I know that you can go to your local courthouse, and search criminal records of adults in your local county or even state.

My question is:

Is there a site online, that doesn’t charge to view criminal records? Or criminal backgrounds?

I know a million sites charge a fee, but I think this is because they believe people are too stupid to be able to find the actual site that is free and provided by the government.

How extensive is a criminal background search?

I had an incident on my last job. There was no legal action taken on the part of the company. I was allowed to resign my position and got another job. I am currently looking for a new position. My current employer did not do any type of criminal background check. I am wondering what information my previous employer would divulge or is allowed to legally.

Your current employer can do a legal check, only as long as it's legal. Also, there would have to be some court documents to back up their story, otherwise it won't show up.
