What is the difference between an FBI & SLED criminal background check?
Written by admin on April 17, 2009 – 4:06 pm -I have a copy of my criminal background from the fbi & sled. Some things that are on my fbi record isn't on my sled & some on my sled isn't on my fbi
The SLED is just the state of South Carolina, where the FBI is the aggregation of states that submit to the NCIC (National Crime Information Center). This is a perfect example of how background checks differ, even when both are prepared by the government. It is up to each individual agency, police department and/or court to submit their records to the state (SLED), then it is up to SLED to submit their records to the FBI. This is why these reports are generally not the best method of obtaining a background check for employment purposes.
